NPs Marilyn Butcher, along with Roberta Heale, launched the first Nurse Practitioner-led clinic in Canada, with 25 now opening in Ontario. Though it was a long hard road, thousands of orphan patients now have access to primary health care thanks to their leadership and the team of individuals who made it happen. Marcel Faggioni is a human resources and leadership expert with a heart, a sense of humour and a mission – leading with integrity. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and has helped thousands of people through his mediation and arbitration expertise. Marilyn Butcher co-authored the proposal for the first NP led clinic in Canada and has recently retired from her position as inaugural Clinic Director for the Sudbury District Nurse Practitioner Clinics. She remains on the Board of Directors of SDNPC. Marilyn has launched her own consulting firm and is working with nursing organizations and groups of NPs who are launching their own NP – Led clinics. She maintains her clinical focus by practicing as a nurse practitioner in rural northern Ontario.

She co- authored “Canada's First Nurse Practitioner–Led Clinic: A Case Study in Healthcare Innovation” in the September 2010 edition of the Nursing Leadership Journal. Marilyn has been an active member of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario and the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario, sitting as NPAO Chair of Political Action and NPAO Chair of Communications in past years. She was recently given a Honourary Lifetime Award from the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario and a Lawrence S Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing Award of Distinction from the University of Toronto.

Marilyn Butcher is a graduate of the first year of the Ontario COUPN Nurse Practitioner program in 1996, and has worked in a variety of settings across Ontario as a Nurse Practitioner. Professional experiences include proposal writing, education and course development. She has been an active participant in advocating for patients by optimal utilization of the role of the nurse practitioner in Ontario’s health care system.

Marilyn and her husband Stephen have recently launched a positive community based monthly newspaper in Walden Ontario with a monthly circulation of 5 000 readers.

Marcel Faggioni is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), possessing a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from Laurentian University and a Master of Industrial Relations degree from Queen's University. He has held various senior management positions in the field of human resources and labour relations. Marcel has acquired his work experience in the federal and provincial governments, in the health care and social services sectors and in the construction industry. For nearly 10 years beginning in 1994, he was a Faculty Member with Laurentian University's Public Administration Department. In April 2008, Marcel successfully obtained his Paralegal designation and was granted membership to the Law Society of Upper Canada. In May 2011, he was granted his Q. Med. designation from the ADR Institute of Canada.

Marcel has conducted numerous seminars and workshops with notable organizations such as the Business Development Bank of Canada, the Canadian Institute and Canada Revenue Agency, focusing on human resources and labour relations training for new entrepreneurs, strategic planning, contract administration, collective bargaining, alternative dispute resolution, interest-based negotiations and labour arbitration. Furthermore, he has conducted nation-wide teleconferences via the former Northern Ontario Teleconferencing Network concerning the pressing issues of the day in human resources, labour relations, performance management and total quality management. In most recent years, Marcel has conducted numerous workplace investigations and mediations with such organizations as Parmalat, Bell Aliant, the Province of Ontario, Sudbury Regional Hospital and Laurentian University.

Marcel has extensive experience as chief management spokesperson in negotiations with public and private sector unions. Since 1994, he has completed extensive training in both mediation and arbitration, and has been granted full arbitrator and mediator membership status with the ADR Institute of Ontario. Marcel is the former Vice-Chair of the Sudbury and Region Mediation Association. In 1999 and 2000, he hosted three (3) Russian Fellows with the Yeltsin Democracy Fellowship Program sponsored by the Government of Canada. In July 2007, Marcel was appointed as a Research Adjudicator with the Canadian Council on Learning. He is regularly asked to speak at nation-wide conferences with the Canadian Institute and Lancaster House Publications. Recent and continuing efforts undertaken his firm, Integrity Management Consulting Group, include restructuring and cost efficiency initiatives, organizational development and the design of alternative dispute resolution systems.

Marcel is fluently trilingual (English, French and Italian) and semi-proficient in Spanish.
