Great Leaders’ Did you know? Section: Building a Successful Team
Building a successful team starts with commitment. That is, the leader(s) must be absolutely committed to the mission at hand, and express this in a congruent, trustworthy manner. After all, if you do not believe in the value of the project or goal, how can you expect your team to believe in it? Great leaders are clear in how they conduct themselves, nurture a positive team culture, and support the members of the team in becoming truly committed as well. This leadership skill takes enthusiasm, hard work, and an attitude of realistic optimism. Not touted as a team building book per se, I recommend The Speed of Trust by Steven Covey (Jr). A powerful and provocative read, this excellent book was suggested to me by one our larger health care clients. I now recommend it frequently, and would like to hear your comments on it’s messaging. Note: What is the difference between team building and team facilitation? Great leaders are always team building. Team facilitation is structured and best delivered or supported by a neutral party.
