New School of Architecture no Longer Just a DreamAfter years of conceptualizing, planning and hard work, visionary leaders from Sudbury Ontario are making the first new school of architecture in Canada in forty years a fantastic reality. It is now official! Great architects, Laurentian University, the City of Greater Sudbury, NOHFC and FedNor, business leaders and community advocates have collaborated successfully in a focused effort to launch the Laurentian Architecture Laurentienne. Approval and $21 million dollars in start-up funding were announced May 24th 2011.Included below is a short, inspiring video about this unique project, followed by key facts. Recognized globally for its successful, bilingual programs for Nurse Practitioners and Physicians, Laurentian University is gaining momentum as a force for innovation and positive change in North American academia. The new school of architecture is already becoming an engine of growth for cultural and economic activity, with launch planned for 2013. Working through the planning, funding and organizational development of a new school of architecture through a recession has not been easy, yet the visionary leaders at the helm have proven that great architects, great leaders and great ideas never rest.
